Swimming Upstream - Caviar vs. Fish Eggs

Parenting Caviar vs. Fish Eggs
Do you know what caviar is?  Its fish eggs.  When I was a teen working on salmon boats part of our pay was the money we earned from selling the eggs from salmon caught on our boat.  The eggs were mostly sold to companies that made them into bait.  Here its bait, but in Russia salmon eggs are a desirable expensive treat.  What’s the difference?  Maybe the location (Russia vs. Washington coast), maybe the processing, maybe the temperature of the water the salmon lived in.  I’m unsure but as parents we can raise bait or we can raise caviar.
We successfully raised three “guppies” to adulthood.  (Yes, we mix metaphors in our home all the time – tis fun) we also were youth leaders for over 6 years with up to 100 teens going in and out of our groups.  We’ve had various teens live with us and learned to see around corners in self defense.  (think water pistols).  Were we the ‘best’ parents? Ummm, a resounding no to that question.  However, we did learn some tricks and maybe they will ‘smooth the troubled waters’ at your home. Read some of the other blogs, I'll put pieces in as I can.
